Aaron served as the primary spokesman for his brother Moses during the confrontation with Pharaoh and throughout the wilderness journey. Appointed to assist Moses due to his eloquence, Aaron played an essential role in addressing the leaders and assemblies of Israel.
Leadership and the Camp
During Moses's prolonged absence upon Mount Sinai, Aaron was confronted with mounting unrest among the people. In response to their demands for a tangible representation of leadership, he oversaw the collection of gold and the creation of the golden calf, an action that led to severe crisis and censure upon Moses's descent.
Priesthood and Service
Aaron was closely associated with the observance of the first Passover in Egypt and was later consecrated as the first High Priest of Israel. In this office, he directed the sacred services within the tabernacle, establishing the hereditary priesthood that ministered before the altar and represented the community in worship.
