The Levites were the tribe consecrated for the service of the Tabernacle and the sanctuary. Descended from Levi, they were chosen to attend upon Aaron and the priesthood, assisting in sacred duties and maintaining order within the camp.
Sanctuary Duties
Rather than receiving a territorial land allotment in Canaan, the Levites were assigned specific responsibilities concerning the transport, assembly, and guarding of the sacred furniture, including the Ark of the Covenant. Their service ensured the proper care and reverence required for the dwelling place of the divine presence.
